Introduction

What is Memory in Movement?

Memory in Movement is a collective storytelling and movement workshop, for people aged 15+ and of all backgrounds.

Narungga/Kaurna writer and performer Jacob Boehme is the Workshop Facilitator. Jacob has been developing Memory in Movement with Indigenous communities across the globe for the past thirteen years. The workshop for is designed for Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants to share experiences of connection to place and country, to each other and to embody ancestral memories.

We carry the stories of our ancestors, stories of place and of country in our blood, in our bodies and in our DNA.

Through guided visualisations and tasks, Memory in Movement unlocks individual memories from childhood, lived experiences and family stories. Through mime and physical gesture, participants embody these memories and together create shared language from which to tell, to move and to dance their stories.
